Welcome to the Gadsden Public Library's Scarboro Collection of Historic Photographs. The collection consists of over 15,000 photographic images taken and compiled by Robert (Bobby) Scarboro during his long career as one of Gadsden's most popular photographers. Currently, the library has digitized 4,300+ of the Scarboro images and these are available on the Gadsden Public Library's web site. The images can be searched by a particular name of an individual, by school group, by building or by event... among many other possible searches. Popular images include those of
downtown Gadsden in the late 1800's and early 1900's, the Dwight Cotton Mill, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant and Republic Steel.
Images can be downloaded from the Alabama Mosaic web site, saved and printed using your home printer. However, these photographs have been watermarked in the middle of each picture with the GPL initials. If you'd like to obtain a high resolution image without the watermark, the charge is $10.00 per image. Size is limited to 8 1/2 x 11 inches. If you have any questions regarding the Scarboro Collection, please contact the Gadsden Public Library at: (256) 549-4699 x117 or by e-mail at: [email protected] .
