Bob Lankford is a life-long resident of Etowah county and a 1963 graduate of Etowah County High School. He served in the U.S. Army 1966-69 and graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1972 with a major in Business Administration and minors in Economics and History. Lankford has been married to Sheila (a teacher) for almost 40 years. They have two married daughters and four grandchildren. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Attalla. Jim Browning was born and raised in a rural community in Northeast Alabama. He enlisted in the US Army soon after his eighteenth birthday and was accepted in the arm leadership school for future non-commissioned officers.
He serve as an Infantry Platoon leader during the Korean Conflict. As a casualty of war he spent six plus month in four field hospitals, two hospital ships and one base hospital, located at Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan.
Upon release from the hospital he was assigned to the Japanese Logistical Command and further assigned as a body guard for the royal family of Japan. He is personally acquainted with His Majesty Akihito 125th Emperor of Japan and served as hi personal body guard during the Winter Olympics of 1951.
Later he was assigned to the First Guided Missile Brigade and was a member of Doctor Werner Von Braun's staff.
Other military assignments included: Temporary Duty (TDY) with Wilding Studios and was a member of the cast while filming "Double Duty American." Later hew was on TDY serving with the military testing of atomic weapons and was on of the first fifty Americans to be within one mile of an atomic explosion.
For more than sixty years Jim and his wife have been married. They have five sons and forty-three grand and great-grandchildren.
