Ustream Video Play Now!
In 2009, the library tried video taping Story Time. That way children could still enjoy the story even if they weren't able to make it to the library that day. Below is the very first effort from March 16, 2009:
In 2009 the library had it's own program that aired on Comcast cable. The program was called "Off the Shelf" and starred Library Director Amanda Jackson and Teen Coordinator Tami Brooks. There were five episodes in all, with the last one airing in early 2010. To view the episodes on Vimeo, just click HERE.
April 7, 2009
A plaque honoring Pulitzer Prize winner Hazel Brannon Smith was placed in the library.
Scarboro Photo Collection
Welcome to the Gadsden Public Library's Scarboro Collection of Historic Photographs. The collection consists of over 15,000 photographic images taken and compiled by Robert (Bobby) Scarboro during his long career as one of Gadsden's most popular photographers. Currently, the library has digitized 4,300+ of the Scarboro images and these are available on the Gadsden Public Library's web site. The images can be searched by a particular name of an individual, by school group, by building or by event... among many other possible searches. Popular images include those of
downtown Gadsden in the late 1800's and early 1900's, the Dwight Cotton Mill, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant and Republic Steel.
Images can be downloaded from the Alabama Mosaic web site, saved and printed using your home printer. However, these photographs have been watermarked in the middle of each picture with the GPL initials. If you'd like to obtain a high resolution image without the watermark, the charge is $10.00 per image. Size is limited to 8 1/2 x 11 inches. If you have any questions regarding the Scarboro Collection, please contact the Gadsden Public Library at: (256) 549-4699 x117 or by e-mail at: firstname.lastname@example.org .

YES! Actually, it has three commercials as well as a few episodes of its own show called "Off the Shelf". I'll be posting those later. In fact, I better double check on the number of commercials. You can watch the first one until I get back....

As one of the authors of the library history book, I thought it would be fun and vital to have a site dedicated to the library and chronicle its move toward the future. ~Julie Dobbins
